About GWD
Headed by Gareth Williams, GWD is a Golf Course Design & Architectural practice that provides clients with bespoke services based on individual project requirements.
Extending from the infinitely creative side of golf course development through to its practical necessities, we firmly believe in the power of collaboration - with clients and partners as key members of the design team - in delivering unique and optimal solutions.
Founded in 2024 and offering nearly 20 years industry experience, GWD works internationally alongside private clients, golf course design firms, golf architects, masterplanners and industry consultants on projects that range from new-build single- and multi-course design, renovations and restorations to short and par 3 courses, innovative practice areas, playgrounds and tech range facilities.
Golf’s greatest asset is the intrinsic connection to landscape’s many forms - its natural variety, beauty and unpredictability, and also to its local communities; its Sense of Place. Great responsibility lies in creating holistic relationships that balance environmental sustainability with enduring social and commercial opportunities - we consider it the foundation of our work.
Sustainable
The evolution of Golf Course Design saw golf develop from a punishing, penal game for expert players to a strategic one, offering players of all abilities a variety of routes to the hole. This progress is worth continuing - by ensuring playability on full length courses and developing golf facilities and playgrounds that make the game attractive, fun and accessible for all.
Accessible
Curiosity about the evolution of golf drives the GWD design process. The game continues to change and adapt over time and its playgrounds must do the same. Variety and creativity in design of the golf landscape - balancing historic and contemporary styles and techniques, and embracing modern technology - is key to developing sustainable golf facilities.

Golf Course Architect | MEIGCA | MA Landscape Architecture
Passionate about golf course design and architecture, Gareth’s strengths lie in collaborative integrated landscape master-planning as well as pure strategic course design. He firmly believes in the evolution of the game and its courses, so advocates strongly for variety, sustainability, multifunctionality and accessibility in its facilities, placing as much value in short and alternative layouts and practice facilities as traditional length courses.
With more than twenty years in golf course design, facility and resort planning, Gareth has broad international experience on a wide variety of development projects. A core design team member at Faldo Design for more than 18 years, his development as a golf architect has been guided by his work and collaboration alongside colleagues there, and through personal and structured education led by the EIGCA.
